What we're about

What we're about is easy: good music.

I'm Vince, and together with my daughter, Tahlula, we run The Record Store in Ashford.

We're both music nuts, and if you're interested, this is how I came to owning and running a record shop.

We need to go back a few years to the late Sixties and I'll start with an little anecdote.

Born and dragged up 'proper' in south London in the early seventies, from the age of about three to five I would be woken by my older brothers coming home with friends from a night at the local pub.

They'd get me out of bed, sit me in front of the record player and spread out the singles on the floor. They'd then ask the guest to choose one, tell me it's name and I would point to it, apparently with 100% accuracy, much to their amazement because this was all before I could even read!

That’s when my love of music started, and it continued as I grew up, luckily through what I consider to be the richest period of music ever – the seventies and eighties – surrounded by incredible music, all of it when it was first released.

Sadly, it was only in 2015 when I became seriously ill that I realised I needed to do something different with my life and turned my love of music into a business.

With a large collection of albums, and recovering in a new town where I didn’t know anyone, it was my wife told me I needed get rid of some of the records and an idea was born.

I lived in a place where no record shop existed and as I had a lot of doubles, even triples in my collection, I wondered if other people in the area want used vinyl. So, I found an old newsagents which was the perfect had closed and I opened The Record Store.

I now wake up each day, go to work and put on a record. I’m involved with the music scene in area, talk music all day, and although it hasn’t made me as well off as my previous jobs, it makes me a damn site happier!

Here I am, a collector of LPs and all things music and guess what, people bring me records and memorabilia etc every week – I couldn’t have wished for more!
